Britain's animal disease problems, most recently with Foot and Mouth Disease in 2001, illustrate the importance of regulatory vigilance. Last summer, researchers from the Food Safety Network traveled to Essex to gather perspectives from British farmers. Their stories are sobering and worthy of attention.
